Pastoral Council Member Profile

Teo Tijerina Pastoral Council Member,
Teo Tijerina

My name is Teófilo Tijerina.  I was born in Reynosa, Tamaulipas – México in 1972, and I grew up in McAllen, Texas.  I am the youngest of six children (four boys and 2 girls).  Most everyone calls me “Teo,” because my name is difficult to pronounce.

When I was eighteen years old, I left the Texas Border region to attend school at Stanford University, in Palo Alto, California.  I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, conferred in 1996.  My professional work experience has included engineering jobs with Union Carbide Chemicals, Conexant Systems Inc., and I also started my own company in El Paso, Texas focusing on electronics manufacturing services.  In addition to my entrepreneurial work in El Paso, I also began an MBA program, and then switched over to a different Masters program.  Before my departure from El Paso, I completed a significant portion of a Masters of Arts Degree in Interdisciplinary studies, focusing on Economic Development and Foundations of American Economic Values.

After almost seven years in El Paso, I wanted to relocate to Central Texas, and I accepted a position at Dell computers in the fall of 2004.  In addition to my work at Dell, I also work with the Economic Development Catalyst Organization (EDCO), a nonprofit organization focused on facilitating the startup of high value added enterprises along the U.S./Mexico Texas Border region.

Upon my arrival, I immediately began my membership at Our Lady of Guadalupe.  As a member of the Pastoral Council, I also sit on the stewardship committee.  Some of my other volunteer work includes mentoring middle school students through the Austin School District, and I participate in Prison Ministry work through St. Ignatius Church in South Austin.  From my day to day chosen activities, it is evident that my faith plays a significant role in my life.

I also enjoy playing basketball, football, tennis, and jogging around Town Lake.  And, I love listening to “live” music, attending local community theatre productions, and visiting with friends at the Warehouse District.
